One of my favourite Malaysian restaurants in Brisbane is Pappa Rich, why? It’s because of their authentic cuisine and plus their food is the closest thing I’ll ever feel to being in Malaysia. I’ve been there a few times with family and friends, and as it always fully packed so we make sure that once the doors open at 11:00am we are in the queue. They have a unique sort of service where there are order forms for you to write down the menu number of the dish and drink you want. When you are done, there is a bell for you to press, and a waiter/waitress will come and double-check the order with you before sending it off to the kitchen. Plus the service is pretty fast too.
Their dishes are quite big; sometimes I can’t even finish them! But the money paid is worth it. Here are a few dishes that I took during the times I have gone:
This is the “Pappa Char Koay Teow” which is a mildly spicy wok-fried flat noodles with prawns, fish cakes, egg, bean sprouts and chives. Flat noodles are one of my favourite types of noodles to eat; so whenever I am out at an Asian restaurant I would order them.
This is the “Nasi Lemak with Fried Chicken” with my all time favourite coconut milk steamed rice; served with fried anchovies, peanuts, half a boiled egg, cucumber slices and their homemade spicy sambal.
This the “Pappa Chicken Rice with Steamed Chicken” with my other all time favourite chicken rice; served with bean sprouts, chicken soup 3 sauces: chilli, ginger and dark soya sauce (from what I remembered, it came late so I didn’t include it in the photo).
One of Pappa Rich’s popular is the “Roti Canai with Curry Chicken” a light Indian-influenced flatbread served with their delicious curry chicken, vegetable curry and sambal sauce.
Last but not least is the “Curry Laksa” a spicy coconut soup with Hokkien noodles with sliced chicken, tofu puffs, beancurd skin, bean sprouts, eggplant and fish cakes.
